FIRST Robotics Team #1027

FIRST Robotics is a multinational program that teams high school students with educators and professional mentors and challenges them to create a robot specifically designed to accomplish the tasks outlined by a game that is redefined each year. After 6 weeks of intense design and construction, teams from all around the USA (and various foreign countries) meet at regional events to compete in that year's game. The competitions are unique in that they require not only technical ability to participate, but a high degree of professionalism and cooperation with other teams in order to succeed.

Besides the obvious benefits of gaining hands on engineering experience with a high concentration of math and science, FIRST Robotics offers much more to its participants. The teams are often formed and operated like real world businesses, so there are many opportunites to learn about such diverse concepts as project management, finance, media and promotion. The program enables participants to meet others with similar interests - both students and professionals, locally and afar.

FIRST Robotics also offers a chance for students to learn more about (and oftentimes network with representatives from) the many companies who sponsor the program on a national or regional level, which in turn enables students to discover what types of technical careers might hold interest for their future. In addition, many colleges and universities from all around the country offer scholarships reserved only for FIRST participants.
